It has been a nightmare week for so many people in Plett and Knysna as the fires have ravaged the area leaving hundreds without a home. We are thankful that Kay and Monty, Rare Earth Country House and The Old Rectory escaped the blaze and also grateful for the incredible bravery of our firefighters and all those within our community who put themselves on the line to protect us.
How you can help
Hundreds of people from all walks of life have only the clothes on their backs and have to start life again from scratch. There are many ways that we can all help. Here are a few:
Transport essential goods with DHL
You can drop off non-perishable food, blankets, water and toiletries (including nappies) at a DHL drop-off point and they will deliver to the Knysna/Plett area for no cost.
Shop online with Pick n Pay
Pick n Pay have made it easy to donate by shopping online. They will deliver to the disaster relief teams. Here is how it works.
Donate to the Plett Fire Fund
Any amount, big or small will make a difference. You can EFT to:
Account: L Brown
Reference: Plett Fire Fund
Bank: FNB
Account number: 62520639933
Branch code: 250655
Back a buddy
The crowd-funding site, Back a Buddy, is also facilitating monetary donations. Find out all the details here.
Send much-needed items via CemAir
CemAir are currently flying essential goods into the area, free of charge. CemAir is also doing a great job of letting us all know what is required the most (at the moment, this seems to be medical supplies).
NSPCA and Knysna Animal Welfare Society
So many animals and pets have also been affected by the devastation. To donate to NSPCA, go online or SMS the word CARE to 38018 (each SMS costs R25, network and admin fees apply). You can also donate directly into the bank account of Knysna Animal Welfare Society, see their banking details below:
